Brooke SEllhorn is a Level 2 Gottman Trained Therapist

Brooke Sellhorn has further developed her training through the Gottman Institute and has expanded her repertoire as a couples therapist. She approaches couples counseling with enthusiasm and hope. Brooke is now a Level 2 Trained Gottman Therapist as well as a Certified Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work Leader. Brooke employs the 30+ years of research of the Gottmans in her approach with couples. The theory that she basis her counseling on is called "The Sound Relationship House". Brooke also utilizes the Gottman Relationship Checkup to provide a thorough assessment of each partner and to develop an accurate picture of the issues that are causing strife in the marriage.

The Gottman Relationship Checkup is comprised of five sections:

  • Friendship and Intimacy: relationship satisfaction, emotional connection, romance, and admiration

  • The Safety Scales: trust, chaos, commitment, and emotional philosophies

  • The Conflict Scales: stress, relationship harshness, and conflict management

  • The Shared Meaning System: shared rituals, values, and goals

  • Individual Areas of Concern: individual issues, safety, sex, depression, drug and alcohol use, violence, anxiety, and other issues that may need psychological or psychiatric help

Couples counseling with Brooke will follow this flow of sessions*:

1.       1 hour initial meeting with the couple

2.       Gottman Check-up Questionnaire emailed to each couple to complete.

3.       1 hour individual appointments with each partner

4.       1 hour Review of Assessment Results

5.       Subsequent Appointments: 90 minutes, bi-weekly meetings as a couple

6.       Friday marathon sessions or a "personal couple retreat" can be scheduled with a month notice. 6 hours in duration.

*Each couple is unique and each couple counseling experience is customized to your needs.
